Everything You Wanted to Know About Sixth Grade But Were Afraid to Ask!
Guidelines that make you seem all knowing about our classes!
***Please refer to the "Grades (Home Access Login)" for more information about online grades***
Supply List - Use the link here for a 6th Grade Supply List. It is important for students to have these supplies in order to be a successful student. If for any reason you are not able to provide these supplies for your child, please have your child (or yourself) contact me privately in order to get needed supplies. Students NEED supplies to be successful, so we at Camerado want to help if needed.
Homework - Homework is assigned nightly, usually due the next day but not always. If no due date is stated, it is due the next day. All assignments are posted in the classroom on the homework board and students should write all assignments in their binder reminders on a daily basis. Assignments are also listed on Google Classroom. Please monitor your children’s homework nightly and help them stay accountable by encouraging them to keep up with their homework. Positive rewards at home for work completed on time are great ways to show your child that homework done well and turned in on time is a key to success.
Binder Reminders - The binder reminder is very important - it contains not only assignments but also the student handbook, log-in and password information for certain websites, and more. Please stress with your child that the binder reminder needs to come back and forth between school and home every day. Parents should check binder reminders on a daily basis. Any missing assignments should be turned in as soon as possible, and will receive partial credit. See below regarding late work.
Absent Work - If possible, AVOID students being absent. Learning through make up work will not be the same as what is done within the classroom. If a student MUST be absent (please keep sick kids at home), they should do the following things:
Using the homework board in each classroom and/or on teacher websites and/or google classroom, complete binder reminder for days missed.
Get papers from the absent work file or the extra copies in each classroom.
Ask/call their study buddy for what they missed.
Follow up and clarify any missed assignments with the teacher before or after class.
Late work (different than "Absent" work) - Late work in the first and second quarters can earn up to 70% credit, and the third and fourth quarters will earn up to 60% credit, if turned in within two weeks after the due date (this is a 6th grade policy, but in my math and science classes students can turn in late work that is still part of the unit we are currently working on; once the math test/lesson or science unit is completed, the work is too late to be considered for late credit). It is very important to the learning process and a student's grades to get work turned in on time. Late work can take up to a couple of weeks to be inputted into the grade book.
Homework Club - Every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:05-3:05 P.M. a 6th grade teacher will host homework club. Homework Club is voluntary for students who would like to have a quiet place after school to get some help or complete their homework.
